ICE Futures was founded in 1980 as the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE).  In June 2001 IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) acquired the IPE, which was subsequently renamed ICE Futures in 2006.

ICE Futures operates a fully electronic regulated futures and options exchange for global energy markets. ICE’s trading platform offers participants access to a wide spectrum of energy futures products. Contracts include the Brent and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) global crude benchmark contracts, Gas Oil, Natural Gas, Electricity, Coal, and ECX carbon financial instruments.

ICE Futures is a Recognised Investment Exchange (RIE) based in London, supervised by the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
